Two Unit Factor Label Problems

When presented with a number with several units (such as density in g/mL) you can change both units in the same math problem using the same basic logic. Just remember that we place units in such as way as to make them cancel, so a unit that is on the bottom will be cancelled by one on the top.

Sample Problem 1

The density of a gas is 1.96 g/L. What is the density in mg/cL?

Sample Problem 2

A young cheetah was seen running 38 m/hour (meters per hour). How fast is that in km/sec?

Your turn

Try these problems that all involve units on both the top and the bottom of the fraction. Answers can be found here.
  1. If the density of a liquid is 0.78 g/mL, what is the density in kg/kl?
  2. If a sprinter runs at 9.4 m/s, how fast are they in cm/min?
  3. If magnesium ribbon weighs 3.61g/m, what would it weigh in mg/cm?
