Mixture Terms

There are a number of terms used with mixtures that you need to understand:

solute

the solute is the thing that is being dissolved. For instance in salt water, the solute is salt.

solvent

the solvent is what the solute is dissolved into. In salt water, the solvent is the water.

solution

the solution is the mixture of the solute and the solvent. In salt water, the solution is the salt water.
