In other words this reaction only happens when one H2 molecule collides with a Cl2 molecule.
The logic here is that I cannot produce the H-Cl bond (in the product) if the two atoms are not together.
The consequence of this fact is that anything I do that increases the number of collisions will increase the rate of the reaction.The number of collisions can be affected by concentration, temperature, and surface area.
