Half-Life Problems

Here are some problems for you to try. The answers can be found here.

1. The half-life of 82Br is 35.34 hours. How long will it take for a 100g sample of 82Br to reduce to 0.78g?

2. The half-life of 203Hg is 46.8 days. You find a bottle of 203Hg that says 350g on the label but it only contains about 21 g. How old is the bottle?

3. After 2 years, a bottle that should hold 100 g of a radioactive element contains about 3 grams. How long is the half life in days?

4. You want to do an experiment with a radioactive element that has a half-life of 2 days. You need 18 grams to do the experiment. It takes 10 days for the shipping. How much should you order?
