Dipole-Dipole Attractions

Polar molecules (such as CHCl3) have a positive end and a negative end. Dipole-dipole attraction is simply the attraction between the positive end of one molecule and the negative end of another.

Sometimes (in molecules that include hydrogen atoms bonded to fluorine, oxygen, or nitrogen - like water or NH3) this attraction can be VERY strong. In those cases it is called hydrogen bonding.
